What To Do In Las Vegas: Weekend of August 18th & 19th

It's that time again! Here's a look at some of the little-known things you can do this weekend around Las Vegas. You can participate in a variety of activities all weekend long, many of which are family-friendly! Click on the event name to get all the information.

Weekend Tykes at Clark County Wetlands Park

  • Free event! No RSVP required. Join us as we celebrate Back to School month with special guests. Parents, bring the kids and join us for kid-friendly, educational activities such as crafts, giveaways and live entertainment!


Storytime Train at Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City

  • 10:00am, 11:30am, or 1:00pm (the 2:30pm ride has been cancelled due to the heat)
  • $10 (ages 12+), $5 (children 4-11), 3 and under are FREE

  • Bring the kids (regardless of age) and have a fun time riding the train, coloring, doing a craft, and listening to a children's story.  Purchase regular tickets to ride the train and join our Storytime Crew in the dining car of the train, on the regularly scheduled train runs (10AM, 11:30AM, 1PM).  We furnish the coloring pages and markers, craft materials, and the story.  Sit with your kids, have fun, take photos or videos, and watch the beautiful desert scenery from the comfort of our train.


Archery at the Ranch at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

  • Feel the electrifying “twang” of a bowstring. Experience the anticipation as your arrow hangs in the air between you and your target. Watch the smile bloom on your child’s face as their arrow sinks into the bullseye! Spring Mountain Ranch State Park offers archery target shooting programs that conform to National Archery in Schools Program safety standards. We provide all the equipment and training; you only need to bring your curiosity and a sharp eye! No prior archery experience is necessary. This program is recommended for everyone ages ten and older.


South Point Car and Truck Show at South Point Hotel & Casino Exhibits Hall

  • See some of the hottest rides in Las Vegas at the South Point Car and Truck Show, presented by Star Nursery, benefiting Speedway Children's Charities. Bring out the family for a day of fun and help raise funds for local children in need!


Kid's Camp Beach Day at Downtown Container Park

  • Join us at Downtown Container Park for the return of Kid's Camp - Beach Day! Featuring a water obstacle course with slide, water games, dunk tank, games and snacks. *Only those participating in the event need to purchase a ticket.

Art Camp at Discovery Children's Museum

  • Take the morning off! Send your kids to the museum for an engaging and interactive art workshop with our community spotlight artist, Lance Smith, in celebration of Artist Appreciation Month.


Sunday Storytime at Clark County Wetlands Park

  • Parents and kids of all ages enjoy a nature themed story time and craft or art activity in the comfort of the Wetlands Park Picnic Café (no food service). Free. Pre-registration not required. Wetlands Park welcomes people of all abilities. If you are in need of a program modifications please call (702) 455-7522 at least two weeks prior to the program closing date.


Sin City Opera Presents: Pirates, Parents and Phantoms at Summerlin Library

  • Come and get a preview of Sin City Opera's ninth season which will include selections from The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert & Sullivan, Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, and A Night with The Flying Dutchman, a re-working of the Richard Wagner opera, along with selections from Sin City Opera's concert catalogue; Call Me Mr. and Bare-ly Opera. This 90 minute concert will feature the finest vocal talents in the Las Vegas valley.
